Simoco Wireless Solutions has signed an agreement to implement the first phase of a multi-phase project to provide Jamaica Public Service – Jamaica’s sole distributor of electricity – with a new Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) network.
The upgrade, which will see JPS transition from an existing analog network to Simoco Xd, a DMR Tier III trunked network, will cover over 25 sites across the Island.
In addition to providing advanced voice communication capabilities and improved audio quality, the new infrastructure will also be used to for data transmission. This includes new telemetry and SCADA capabilities, provided by Simoco’s Pulse technology.
Simoco will be providing full systems integration, working with JPS to bring together its 700 Series of Portable and Mobile Radios, its Simoco Pulse AIR Pro Data Modems and additional technologies, including microwave backhaul communication services. During the project, Simoco will also be providing Catalyst Communication Technologies integration and console solutions to ensure integration between JPS’ existing analog network and DMR during the transition phases.
Gary Correia, VP Americas Sales and Business Development at Simoco Wireless Solutions, said: “This new robust network will enable JPS to communicate seamlessly and with flexibility across the entire Island.
“The 700 series digital radios will ensure that JPS employees are using the network with the latest radio technology, giving them the full benefit of DMR’s calling features, data transmissions, and reliably clear communications in all environments.
“The Simoco Xd network will also serve as the perfect backbone for further data communication services, with Simoco Pulse providing JPS with the ability to unify its mission critical voice and data transmissions across one network.”
